3 Important Tips to Prepare For Successfully Transplanting Trees and Shrubs

Transplanting Tree TipsAutumn and Winter are the best times to transplant trees in this area. The cool weather reduces the risk of stress by the plant or tree. In addition the soil is still warm enough to encourage the roots to grow.

Prepare…

  1. Build up the Plant/Trees health by applying weekly applications of Seasol seaweed extract over the leaves, trunk and soil around the roots. Seaweed extract helps to thicken the cell walls of the plant so that it can withstand the stress of moving much better. Seasol is not a nitrogen-rich fertiliser, and therefore will not cause an unwanted flush of leaves.
  2. Decide on your plant/trees new location. Consider the needs of your plant/tree and seek professional advice if you are not sure of the best requirements, this will include the amount of sun/shade your plant/tree requires, the expected size of the plant/tree, water and soil requirements
  3. Prepare the new hole early. Make the hole 2 times larger than the expected root ball, and place a LOW nitrogen fertilizer in the base, mix with the surrounding soil on the sides only. A solid base will support the plant’s root ball and prevent it from ‘sinking’.
