What to plant in Autumn
In the first of this multi-part guide you will learn our best tips and recommend products to keep your Garden beautiful and productive, and bolster your Lawn for Spring.
Plant out winter and early spring flowering annuals and vegetables while the soil is still warm, so they will establish well before the onset of colder weather.
• Bulbs from mid-March to the end of April
• Pansies, violas, polyanthus, cineraria
• Natives such as correas, bottlebrushes, lillypillies and grevilleas
• Evergreen trees and shrubs
• Lots of vegies love the cold weather so there’s no reason why you can’t continue producing your own healthy food from your winter garden -Strawberries, lettuce, onions, spinach, radish, broad beans, cabbage, carrots, spring onions (Sow carrot and spring onion seeds direct where the plants are to grow. Start cabbage seeds and spinach in seedling pots).
Valley Rural Supplies carries a range of Seeds, Mulch, Seed Mix and Seed Raising trays to get your productive Veggie Garden underway.
Planting Tips!
Prepare soil before planting by digging in lots of rich organic material, like compost mixed with a quality fertilizer. We recommend Terra Firma Organic Life, which is terrific value and a small business that specialises ONLY in Fertilizers.
Once planted a good dose of Seasol will help your new seedlings settle in.
