What’s the Best Options to Rid Your Poultry of Parasites

Poultry Lice ProductsOne of the responsibilities of owning Chickens is make sure they maintain good health.  Chickens can be prone to Parasites and Lice.

But never fear there are lots of products in store to assist you with the control of Bird Lice.  If you are not sure if your flock is affected by parasites, you can do a bit of reading here and learn more about bird dwelling parasites.

Product 1 – Maldison 50

How does it work?

PHARMACHEM MALDISON 50 is an organo-phosphorous anti-cholinesterase compound that attacks the central nervous system of parasites – i.e. Mosquitoes, Lice, Poultry Mites, Fowl Tick, Dog Fleas, Brown Dog Tick and Sarcoptic Mange.

Uses…

Insecticidal Concentrate for the control of Lice, Fleas, Brown Dog Tick, Sarcoptic Mange, Poultry Mites, Lice & Fowl Tick, Fly & Mosquito control.  For use on horses, pigs, cattle, poultry, dogs and cats.

Product 2 – Pestene

Inca Pestene Insect Powder is designed specifically for control of lice, mites and fleas on dogs, cats, fowls, calves, horses and goats. Not to be used on kittens and puppies under 3 months old. No withholding time for egg consumption.

This is a traditional ‘go to’ product for all types of Poultry Lice

Product 3 – Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth is made from the fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms. Their skeletons are made of a natural substance called silica.  The fine powder is excellent for bolstering your chicken’s ‘dust baths’, and sprinkling around to deter mites and lice on the ground.

Dust baths are important to chickens… as mad as it sounds… dust bathing is your chicken’s way of keeping themselves clean!  They also form part of the social seen for chickens… think of dust baths as Poultry Day Spas!
